The danger of unsecured wireless networks in your home
There are 4 available wireless networks that my laptop is picking up and one of then is broadcasting unsecured.
You may say that it’s not a big deal to let someone hop on your WI-FI and use it to gain access to the internet. But there are those out there that scan the airwaves for unprotected networks so that they can use then for purpose of lunching viruses, DOS “Denial of Service” attackes. Using someone else’s network makes it hard for these perpetrators to be located. Any trace of their criminal activity by the authorities will only lead to the IP address that the ISP has assigned the broadcasting router of the network. Finding the person or persons behind the attack is almost impossible. Here a few things recommend you do to keep your network safe:
Change the default setting on your router
Disable SSID broadcast
Turn off your network when not in use
MAC address filtering
Use Encryption
